Somatics in EMDR Consultation
A client describes one thing, while body cues or activation seem to tell a more complicated story. You may be unsure what to follow, how to ask about it or when to slow down.

I’m Dr. Corrine Buchanan, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant in Training™ (CIT). We can explore body awareness, sensory preferences and pacing within EMDR, starting with the client’s reported experience.

What Are You Noticing?
Body awareness can offer another perspective on a clinical question. We can consider what the client reports, what you observe and how those details inform the decision you’re facing. The client’s preferences, context and feedback remain part of the picture.

We’ll explore mindfulness and body-centered perspectives within EMDR and your existing training, while recognizing questions that call for further assessment, specialist consultation or education.
Questions You Can Bring
You may be weighing whether to continue, pause or return to preparation. Or you may be wondering how sensory preferences and your own responses are shaping the pace.

We can think through how to:
-
Invite body awareness without assuming what the client feels
-
Consider sensory preferences in preparation and the session environment
-
Examine how your own reactions influence the pace and relationship

Bring what you’ve noticed and what you’ve tried so we can connect the discussion to your clinical decisions.
Questions About Somatics in Consultation
Is this training in a somatic modality?
This is case-based EMDR consultation. It does not confer a somatic certification or replace modality training. We’ll work within the scope of your training and our consultation agreement.
What background informs this work?
I’m a Certified Mindfulness Teacher through the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults. I teach Mindful Living to undergraduate and graduate students and have facilitated mindfulness classes in private practice.
My graduate teaching and curriculum work include The Body in Counseling: A Somatic Approach to the Therapeutic Relationship and The Neurobiology of Relationships: Applications in Clinical Practice.

Can this focus be part of certification consultation?
It can be relevant within an agreed, structured process focused on your use of EMDR. Discussing somatics alone does not establish eligible hours. CIT limits and other certification requirements apply.
