Trauma-Informed EMDR Consultation

Should you keep going, change the pace or spend more time preparing? A client’s current stress, relationships and support can complicate a treatment plan, even when you know the protocol.

I’m Dr. Corrine Buchanan, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant in Training™ (CIT). We can look at readiness, choice and context as you weigh your clinical options.

Keep the Person in View

We’ll consider how consent, identity, relationships and present circumstances shape preparation, pacing and communication. The focus stays on the decision you’re facing and the information you need to make it.

Some questions need additional assessment, a higher level of support or more specialized expertise. Recognizing those limits is part of thoughtful consultation.

Questions You Can Bring

If a treatment plan feels difficult to move forward, we can slow down the question and examine what may be missing from your assessment or case conceptualization.

We can explore:

  • How current stressors and available support affect treatment planning

  • How you’re evaluating readiness and involving the client in pacing decisions

  • When specialist consultation, further training or coordination of care may be needed

The client’s goals and responses remain part of the discussion.

Questions About Trauma-Informed Consultation

Can I bring a question involving risk or a recent crisis?

We can examine your reasoning around assessment, safety planning and support. Scheduled consultation is not an emergency response service. Use your established emergency procedures and required supervision for immediate safety concerns.

What background informs this work?

My background includes counseling and mobile crisis outreach at the Alachua County Crisis Center. I responded to traumatic deaths and other crises, worked with community partners, and supported crisis counselors with risk assessment and safety planning.

From 2021 through 2023, I trained crisis-line counselors in active listening, crisis intervention and suicide prevention. I taught Introduction to Trauma and Crisis from 2022 to 2025 and have guest lectured on assessing stress, trauma and dissociation.

Is consultation appropriate for every complex trauma presentation?

We’ll discuss fit before beginning. When a case exceeds my consultation scope, we’ll identify the kind of additional expertise or support to seek.
